My name is Kento Tsuchiya. I am a Japanese student who is enjoying and excelling in many grade 12 subjects. I have been at Bodwell High school for three semesters and I will graduate shortly. My target universities are Waterloo, Western, and Toronto. I would like to study Computer Science during my post-secondary education. It is a sincere pleasure to be a part of a Bodwell University Mentorship Program.  It is fascinating to research about the admission, and course structure and content of these respective universities. My on-going assignment is to investigate options to enter the target courses. For example, in Computer Science there are two distinct possibilities. The first tactic is to enter the department directly. The other option is to enter another program then transfer to your major. If I try to enter Computer Science directly, it may require that I have an average above 80%. On the other hand, entering the Global Business and Digital Arts department may require a slightly lower mark. By choosing the less demanded program, there is a greater possibility for long term success. My strategy is to be settled and familiar in my major academic area within the first two years. This is a reasonable and mature expectation when moving to a new part of the country, a different environment, and a new atmosphere of learning. I am looking forward to greater knowledge in post-secondary education. Additionally, I will interact and assist any other students who are travelling in my direction and looking for a positive environment to advance their academic skills.

My name is Michaella Okwu. I am from Nigeria and I am 17 years old. I want to study medicine but in Canada, medicine is studied as a graduate degree. One has to do an undergraduate course before going into medicine and  I want to study sciences for my undergraduate degree but am not certain on what part of science I want to go into. The schools I am interested in are University of Alberta, University of Calgary, U of T, McMaster, UBC. So my exploration project is to find out if there are co-op or internship programs for science students available at these universities. Also, to find out what kind of opportunities are available for science students at the university hospitals and health care centres for each universities and if there are specific skills that are valued by employers who hire science students. So if you are interested in using a science approach to get into medical school eventually, you would like to follow my blog and I will do my best to keep you up to date. My name is Shakhnoza and I am from Kazakhstan. I am glad to be part of the mentorship group at Bodwell High School. This is an excellent opportunity to share important and interesting facts with other students and find lots of useful information. This group helped me a lot. It helped me to understand what I am interested in. There are a lot of universities, which are flexible and offer co-op programs. Many allow to combine different disciplines. Meeting with people in different events helped me to discover a lot of information about particular universities and programs that I am planning to. My plan is to study political science & international relations at either University of Calgary, Carleton University, McMaster University or York University.

Like all Explorers they are on a mission of discovery.  They are exploring university and career possibilities, revealing big ideas, exiting opportunities, interesting places and people.  They revealing challenges and obstacles, and strategies for addressing them.  So their journey is also one of self-discovery, of personal interests and strengths of the dreams and passions that inspire their futures. 

They've been busy.

Since the beginning of the semester, they've engaged university representatives from around the world, from  Ivy League, to Canada's best from coast to coast, to leading universities from the UK and Australia.  They've attended presentations at Bodwell and traveled to special events across the city.  And over the next few weeks they will be continuing their exploration, visiting university campuses and reaching out and making personal connections with university staff and students.

Through this Blog, they will tell you about themselves and their journeys of discovery and their personal Exploration Projects. They will share with you their enthusiasm for the possibilities of university and college.  They will also share some of the challenges they discover.

Message from Mr. Boris Remes - Assistant Director of Admissions

This Fall, Bodwell's University and Career Guidance Team has designed and planned a range of activities and services to support students and their parents. Fifteen Canadian universities have scheduled to visit Bodwell to make presentations to students. Grades 11/12 students will be arranged to visit at least one of the Ivy League Schools Fair, the Study and Go Abroad Fair, and the Canadian Universities Event held in Vancouver in the coming months. We will continue to organize our traditional campus tours to BC universities. On top of that, we are organizing our first Ontario-Quebec University & Cultural Tour during the April 2014 break. This Fall, we are introducing a University & Career Guidance Club and an Exploration Leaders Mentorship Program for interested students.
